Windsurf review: does Cascade actually beat Cursor Composer?

/

I used Windsurf exclusively for 2 weeks to test the claims. Here is where Cascade wins, where it loses, and whether you should switch.

What does Cascade do better than Cursor?

Cascade reads your full codebase context before generating code. It understands project-wide patterns. Cursor works file-by-file unless you nudge it. Cascade’s multi-file awareness means its first output is more likely to match your existing patterns. For new features in an existing codebase, Cascade is faster on the first pass.

Where does Cascade fall short?

It loses context in large refactors. When I asked Cascade to refactor 15 files, it started hallucinating file paths and generating code for files that did not exist. Cursor’s Agent mode handles large refactors more reliably. Cursor has better prompt templates for fixes like ‘find the bug in this function’.
