Is Claude Code worth $100/mo? Real usage analysis

/

I paid for Claude Code Pro for 3 months. The bill was $300. Here is exactly what I got for that money and whether I would renew.

How many hours did Claude Code save per month?

About 8 hours per month in my first month. 5 hours in the second month. 3 hours in the third month. The diminishing returns were real — I got faster at reviewing AI output, so the time savings shrank. The average was about 5 hours per month. At my freelance rate of $50/hour, that is $250/month of saved time against a $100/month cost. Positive ROI by my math.

What tasks did Claude Code handle better than cheaper alternatives?

Complex multi-step tasks. Refactoring a React component with state management. Setting up a Stripe webhook with proper error handling. Writing database migrations. These tasks would take me 2-3 hours manually. Claude Code handled them in 20-30 minutes. For simple tasks like writing a single function, Cursor’s free tier was just as good.
