Not every AI coding tool fits every project type. I built 5 different types of projects with 5 different tools. The wrong tool adds hours. The right one saves days. Here is which tool for which project type.
Which AI tool should you use for a landing page?
Bolt.new or v0 by Vercel. I built a 3-page landing page in 90 minutes with Bolt.new. Type the prompt, get the site, deploy to Vercel. The AI handles responsive layout, SEO meta tags, and light/dark mode automatically. The output is clean enough to show a client. I compare these in my Bolt.new vs v0 review.
Which AI tool for a full SaaS?
Cursor with Composer Agent mode. A SaaS has auth, payments, multiple pages, and a database. Bolt.new cannot handle this complexity. Cursor’s multi-file refactoring handles all layers in one session. I built a Stripe integration across 4 files with one Composer prompt.
Which AI tool for a Chrome extension?
Claude Code. The Chrome extension API is well-defined and compact. Claude Code’s terminal-native approach excels here — it generates the manifest, content script, and service worker in one go. I describe this in my Chrome extension guide.
Which AI tool for an API or backend service?
Claude Code or Codex CLI. Both run in the terminal and handle server-side logic well. Claude Code is better for Node.js APIs. Codex CLI excels at Python services. The terminal-native agents handle package management, environment variables, and deployment script generation.
